Bucket List of Races

Source

A Bucket List of races...I'm pretty sure every runner (and Triathlete) has one of these. In the beginning, it was small races, 5Ks, and close to home Half Marathons.  Then it starts evolving as we run more and more into Half Marathons that are further away, Marathons and eventually the Ultra Marathon. For a short amount of time, I had a few Ultras on my bucket list, but they have been erased....for now.  I have a running bucket list and a "Life" Bucket List. Seems like I am constantly adding to my list and making changes based on race reports. Luckily, I have the rest of my life to get to these as I anticipate being a lifelong runner.

Without further ado....

  • Disney Princess Half Marathon (it's the happiest place on Earth, who wouldn't want to run this?! Plus, I'd get to wear a tiara!)
  • San Francisco Marathon (or Half)
  • ING New York City Marathon
  • Chicago Marathon
  • Rock 'N Roll Las Vegas (just for the experience of running the strip at night!)
  • Honolulu Marathon
And last but certainly not least.....
  • BOSTON Marathon (Yes, I would LOVE to qualify for Boston, but might have to wait until I am much older as I don't anticipate getting fast enough to qualify anytime in the near future!)
Most of these marathons are in cities/locations that I want to visit. I have been to San Francisco and Chicago, but the visits were too short and this would be the perfect way to tour the cities! The rest just sound like fun. I don't know if I will ever get to some of these races, but having a dream list is fun!

Do you have a bucket list of races? Have you run any of my bucket list races? What would you add?

  1. I totally want to do the Las Vegas one too! I think I am basically doing a Disney by doing Goofy...but I didn't really have it on a check list. I'd love to do Chicago and mental list is also the Indy race that ends on the track!

    1. I heard bad things about Vegas from last year, but if they fix the issues, I think it could be a lot of fun! And maybe someday Goofy! Might have to add that one....

    1. Thanks, Jenna! I love to run for running, BUT, I LOVE races. The atmosphere is awesome, plus I love the feeling of accomplishment of crossing that finish line.

  4. I don't have a written list. I pretty much want to run every race I hear about...except New York. That one is too crowded for my taste. Although, I've never heard of them running out of water. ;)

lol, love the running out of water comment about NY. My concern with that race is getting to the start line and back more than the size.

    2. Ok, Jamie...you haven't written a list?! What? :) And yes, NY would be too crowded, I just can't think of a better way to see a city than to run a marathon through it! Would have to be strictly a "fun race", not for time.

I live in Chicago, and ran that last year as my very first Mary. Think it's a great big running party in the street! My Bucket List includes Divas Puerto Rico Half Marathon, Nike Womens 26,2 (which I'll be running this fall), a See Jane Run Half and Boston, of course. I BQ'd at my last Mary, but only by 2 minutes, which I doubt will actually get me in. I will be trying though! I haven't bucket listed any more fulls, which is strange cause I do want to run more.

    1. Thanks for the reminder, I totally forgot about Nike Women's! OH! and See Jane Run is supposed to be awesome races....hmmm....may have found another to add to my list. I love Boston and can't wait to go back to visit when the boys are older.

  6. I truly believe that a marathon is the best way to really engulf yourself in a city. Touring it on your own two feet - so amazing! NYC and Boston are tied as my two favorites, but for different reasons. They are both uniquely amazing experiences! I hope you get to cross both of those off of your list! :)

  7. Cool idea on a "bucket list" of races. Part of me wants to run all the major marathons, and after November, all i will have left is London and Berlin. Of course, these are the hardest to get to.

A little easier and also on my list is Disney, Marine Corps marathon, and then some nice, west coast, along the ocean type of run. I'm sure there's a handful.

    1. After watching the Olympic Marathon, I really want to run in London. Oh, who am I kidding, I really want to visit London regardless of what I'm doing there! I have heard of some really pretty races along the west coast, along the ocean and you're right, that would be wonderful! Good thing I love to run....looks like I have a lifetime of races to complete!

  8. Nice bucket list of races! I have a mental bucket list of races, but not one written down, I should change that! Every time I read a cool race report from some location, I think, I HAVE to run that. I have issues!
